Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh by Road: Route, Time and Tips

Many families and groups prefer to drive from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh: it saves on flights and baggage fees and takes you door to door. The distance is about 500 km, roughly 6 hours including stops.

The route

The usual route runs from Cairo to Suez, through the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel under the Suez Canal, then south along the Gulf of Suez coast via Ras Sudr, Abu Zenima and El Tor to Sharm El Sheikh.

Choose the right vehicle

• Sedan for up to 4.
• Xpander or H1 for up to 7.
• Hiace for up to 13, with screens and USB.
• Coaster for large groups.

Travel tips

• Carry your ID or passport for checkpoints.
• Leave early to arrive before sunset.
